The genetic inheritance of an X-linked disease is relatively straightforward and easy to understand.  It must be noted that since some of these diseases are fatal and debilitating, there is a much lower probability that affected males and affected females will reproduce.  The reproductive possibilities are:

  • Normal, non-carrier mother with normal father
  • Normal, non-carrier mother with affected father
  • Normal, carrier mother with normal father
  • Normal, carrier mother with affected father
  • Affected mother with normal father
  • Affected mother with affected father
